Bae Colwyn /Colwyn Bay town lies on the North Wales coast. The A55 passes through the town and the North Wales Coast train line runs parallel to it. The Community council comprises of the wards of Glyn and Rhiw.

Within the Colwyn Bay area there are three secondary schools – two state – Eirias High School is in the catchment area for Colwyn Bay, Rhos on Sea and Penrhyn Bay – Ysgol Bryn Elian is in the Old Colwyn catchment area -  and one private school – Rydal Penrhos. 

The 2001 Census recorded that 20% of the population are fluent welsh speaking, with the 10-14 years age group having the highest percentage of 38%. Ysgol Bod Alaw is a Welsh medium primary school in Colwyn Bay.
