New rule from April 2011 for direct payment of Housing Benefit to Landlords

From the 1 April 2011, the Department for Work and Pensions have widened the discretion to allow Local Authorities to make a direct payment of Housing Benefit to a landlord (with the permission of the tenant) where the Local Authority considers that it will assist the tenant in securing or retaining a tenancy.
This additional legislation means that we can pay your Housing Benefit straight to your landlord with your permission, if they help you get a new tenancy or keep your current one by charging a reduced rent that is affordable to you. The amount of rent charged needs to be at or below the new Local Housing Allowance 30th percentile level, current rates can be obtained from www.conwy.gov.uk or by contacting the  Housing Benefit Office at:-
